July Happenings

The water cart is now going out three mornings a week with a team of two each day. The baskets and planters are filling in nicely. The town/village hall baskets were put up today. All the gardens are getting their weekly attention.

Mulch Day

Saturday, June 14 turned out to be a great day to mulch the gardens. With the mulch transport provided by Gerry Beckens, we tended to the gardens all morning. After our work Audrey treated us to a tour of her gardens. The roses were blooming with vigor. We oohed and ahhed our way around with Audrey providing us with the name of each of her over 200 roses.

That Time of Year

It is time to plant the square sidewalk planters and put up the hanging baskets on Monday, June 9 beginning at 10 AM. Here is a photo from June 2007 of Karen Buzzell. The new water cart will be out on Tuesday morning for its inaugural run. Wait until you see this sharp vehicle we will be driving on our water route. Mike Boone has added some detailing that sets off the cart in style. The planting is accomplished in assembly line fashion and takes about an hour. The village crew will put up the hanging baskets for us.

On Saturday, June 14 at 9:15 AM we will begin the mulch run to all the gardens that we tend.
Everyone is invited to bring their shovels and rakes for a morning of work and fellowship as we get the village spruced up for the summer season.

We look forward to surrounding the village with flowers that bring a touch of beauty to our streets.

Beautify Sodus

We are grateful for the support of the community that made our 8th annual plant sale a success. With contributions from friends of the garden club and garden club members we had a wide variety of plants for shoppers. The profits help the club buy plants, mulch, fertilizer, a "new" water wagon and offer a Tech Center scholarship. It also is a way to share a love for gardening and make our little corner of the world more beautiful. We were also happy to share our "leftover" plants to the Williamson Garden Club who were having a sale during the Apple Blossom festivities. The club will soon be hanging the baskets, filling the sidewalk planters and begin the summer watering. Most of the gardens have been tended to this spring and await their mulch on June 6. Look for the ladies in their blue shirts as they care for the gardens throughout the village.

8th Annual Plant Sale

The Sodus Garden Club annual plant sale is scheduled for May 17, 9 Am - Noon at the Sodus Primary School located on Route 88 south of the village. Club members are potting up a variety of plants from their gardens for the sale. A wide variety of tomato plants started from seed are also available. Geraniums from a local nursery will be added this year. Browsing is encouraged and advice is shared on all aspects of growing the many plants offered for sale. Proceeds from this year's sale will be used toward the purchase of a "new to the club" water cart and the BOCES Tech Center scholarship.
